Based on your description, it may be an issue with the temperature sensor in the thermostat housing - this is a common problem.  Since your temp gauge went to red, the computer may be in a 'non-running' mode since it believes your engine is in an overheated condition. 

Further diagnostics may be necessary to confirm this, but this is where I would recommend you start.

Battery connections fine. I replaced the battery 2 weeks ago with a new 1. So.i cleaned the connections .

Hi Guys. From me all the way in South Africa. Im havi g an issue with my cooper S. Yesterday i pulled it out the driveway to go to the petrol station. I drove 10 meters when the ASC light and tyre pressure light came on, the heat gauge went all the way into the red and the car switched off. The car now now just swings and wont start. I checked everything from wheel pressure, tyre sensors, coolant in the system but still nothing..any help????????
