Later Minis had the serial number  the bonnet drip  rail area . You have to peel up the foam to see it. It will closer to the right side .

Either that or trace the wire through the floor grommet and see where it goes to. It may have had one of those brackets under the dash in its earlier life but was removed, look to see if you can spot a couple of screw/bolt holes through the lower dash rail to the right of the steering column.

My car does not have the red light. After you mentioned it I searched around for info and pictures to know what I would be looking for. I think my car is too new to have that light. With a baby and work I don't have much time to get outside and fiddle with the exhaust, so my results for the torch test on the sensor will have to wait until the weekend.

fmix, if you look at the interior picture that he posted of the interior of the Mini it has the red EXH light to the right of the steering wheel that yours should have, but as i said i have only seen them on 998cc carbed Mini's.
I think yours is aftermarket especially if it does not have the add on dash bracket.
Did you trace the wire yet ?

For the tire size, I have a 1993 and the Rover owners manual I was given says that the stock tire size is optional between 145/70 and 165/60 for the stock 12 inch rims.  I've forgotten the recommended PSI numbers, but I am thinking it was 28 front and 30 rear.  I have them all at 30.

A word of caution.  Before you start thinking about modifying the exhaust search around for info on the EXH light and the catalytic temp sensor.  Apparently only the JDM Minis had the sensor and it is causing a bit of a bind for me.  If you are thinking about doing an exhaust you might want to follow up on my info first.  Check out the "cat delete on SPI" thread I have going.  malsal is patiently helping me to sort the issue out.  I hope to figure definite out info so that issue can be solved for future JDM Mini owners.

With stock 12 inch rims 165/60-12. With 13 inch rims (which i don't recommend) 175/50-13 and will require body mods. With 10 inch rims 165/70-10. It looks like it has 145/70-12's on it right now which was the stock Rover size for the 4.5 inch wheels. Just enjoy it for what it is right now then look around and see what you want to do to it.

Japan in the late 80's and early 90's decided to use their own vin numbers which they just stamped in the trunk floor next to the battery, yours is the 99X number and any records would be in Japan. The original UK vin which will probably start SAXX or similar is where you will get your information from and if that is still present (which they usually are) is located on the drivers side inner fender behind/beside the a/c condenser. The number you posted on the front panel is just a body number and there are no records on them. Looks like the radiator is new and an aluminum one as well and it would be nearing towards the end of production with a 998cc engine and a carburettor as they switched to 1275cc and fuel injection.

998A+ engine with lead free head.

Very similar in all aspects to my 89 Jap MINI

How is the AC working?

I just bought a 1991 Mini that was imported from Japan and I was wondering if anyone could help me with any history or info with it.  The VIN # 99X-15717-AR and I can't seem to find any info on it.  I will try and post some pictures.  I would love any help or info.
