First,Loan a used but proven working distributor,( pls dont say your dizzy is new, i know it,  im eyeing a factory defect)

second, check and correct  the valve timing

third,  check and correct the ignition timing.

fourth, forget about the fuel pump, your problem is not the fuel pump.

it is a misfire,,,,, not fuel starvation !!!!

get a timing gun,  then hook the C-clamp on each or the plug wires, one at a time, point the gun to the floor, have someone rev it at 4k  while you observe the light continuity,, if the slight skips then you know which wire, or plug has a problem... Correct it.

one more thing before i sleep,  when its dark, open the hood, rev the car at 4k then look at the distributor, observe for Arc-ing . ( youtube it)  this will ensure that you dont have bad connections and bad plug wires or bad dizzy cap.

Again, i'll bet my manhood, it's not a fuel delivery issue.

now, let me sleep and play with my manhood before i loose it !!!

still sounds fuel or electrical.

at higher revs something is starving.

Did you look at your spark at each plug?  wire off with screw driver  on lead end grounding?

and then plug out of engine in lead grounding?

What's breaking up might be coming from the dizzy or a coil issue.

Possibly a dizzy drive that's worn, or even the cam sliding somehow on the chain?   Or something loose in there.

What about a sheared key on the cam drive?  it might have a bit of friction between the chain and shaft but at higher speeds it can not keep up?

Ask Jamel to comment here.

I've had new coils that did not work.

good video link showing us the issue.

I rewatched that video with better speakers sure does sound like valve noise, One other thing I have seen in the past is a valve seat come loose in the head when good and hot and then find its way back again. Either way I think you have something going on valve related.

Just a thought but maybe an exhaust valve sticking slightly open when the stem heats up enough, that would explain the noise (excessive valve to rocker clearance) after the fault and then when it cools some it releases and gets quite again.
It would be somewhat messy but maybe you could run it with the valve cover off to help identify if this is a possibility.

what is that awful knock/clatter at idle?
what spark plugs are you using?
I've put a dial back timing light on it at 4k rpm.  It is steady for a while.  it doesn't jump around until it starts to sputter.
the awful clatter is how it sounds after it fails at 4k rpm.  it settles down in a bit then idles smoothly and fairly quietly again (normal).
It doesn't make that bad clatter at idle until after it goes bad at 4k rpm.
I'll check the plugs.
as mentioned in another thread. any thoughts on a worn dizzy spindle drive?

Hey fellas.
New carb did not do the trick.  problem remains.
I was able to drive 30 miles at 3800rpm with no problem
pushed it up to 65mph 4000rpm.  engine sputters
it also sputters at 4k rpm in the driveway after about a minute of running at 4k rpm.
what i have done- lot's. i'll try to list everything i've tried.
- replaced all fuel lines
- cleaned fuel tank
- tried running with gas cap off
- replaced dizzy with matching flamethrower coil
- replace cap rotor and wires
- new spark plugs
- tried a borrowed hif44 carn
- tried several different needles
- replaced valve springs
- new facet fuel pump
- tried the gas can in the front seat thing
I'm this close to buying the 1275cc engine listed in the for sale section. or going full vtec!

if you notice there is a lot of smoke coming from the valve cover cap.  not sure if that's normal.
in the vid the engine starts misfiring at about the 1 minute mark.  i will continue to run sputtery until I let off the throttle and let it settle down.  Then will run smoothly again.  Hard to see but the fuel filter in front of the carb is full.

youtube link. (sorry i filmed it sideways)
