Thanks for all the feedback guys. I'm feeling a little better about the idea of doing this to my own car. I'm with you Spank - the used market for 4X100 wheels is SO much larger and affordable it seems than the 4X4" one.

My recent purchase, a 65 corvette, will be adding spacers to move tires out some in the flares.  The shop I'm using showed me these spacers that use the hub spacing and then have a choice of another spacing adding studs to fit any wheel unique spacing??

I am running Australian Moke swingarms and they clear the 195/50-15 tires no problem.

I have run both Basset D hole steel wheels in 15x8 and the narrower 15" VTO minilite style wheels (bought before Mania became a distributer for them). They (VTO )actually helped me out big time when Basset screwed up my order when I tried to order a replacement

The reason why I won't order new large size 4 on 4" wheels again is because there's a BIG difference between buying used 4x100 wheels in 13, 14, 15 and up diameter wheels on craigslist and paying for new 4 on 4". It's a $ thing.

What happened with the 15s? I know they won't clear the rear trailing arms, but there are subframe and coil-over options!

Also 4x4 inch is not all that uncommon for wheels, and many suppliers will machine the holes for the lugs AFTER you tell them the pattern you want... Among them VTO Wheels in Arizona, that supply a nice version of the MiniLite design.

Do it.

There are loads of ARP wheel studs in various lengths and shank diameters. Just drill the exact same holes that are 4x4" (101.6mm) larger but offset to 4x100. Going to a larger (aka NORMAL civic stud, for example) will eat up the .8mm easily. Depending on which studs ad which brakes you use, you might have to chamfer the rotors or drive flanges to clear the studs.

It's on my to-do list for the LeMons moke but haven't gotten around to it. I foolishly bought some custom 15" diameter wheels with 4on4" pattern a few years back and swore i'd never do it again.

I just need to find someone local with a dial indexing machine.

I suppose it would be possible, but 4 x 100mm is actually smaller than the standard 4 x 4 inches.  You could have a 4 x 100 pattern drilled and tapped into the hubs such that they would look like an 8-lug!  I thought about running the 15 inch Minilite looking wheels that came on the early base BMW MINI Cooper for a few fleeting moments!

Anyone successfully done this? I'd have a machine shop do the work professionally, and I know I'd need beefier studs - but the appeal of having some more wheel choices in this bolt pattern for a VTEC powered car is enticing. Is this a good idea... or no? I'd be interested in pros and cons from the folks here.
