if you are building a race car that will not be driven on the street, the speedo and tach from the us market should work fine. you should be able to choose kph on the digital speedo readout although the analog dial will be marked in mph.

And what would happen if I buy an speedometer of an "american market" car (mph reading) and try to install it in my car which has been originally equipped with an speedometer with kilometer reading? Is there any incompatibility?

Since the tach and speedo are all electronically driven by the ECU, I suspect it will not be an easy task to adapt.  You should try to find a R53 tach and speedo.

Hi,
my name is Max and I am from Argentina. Few months ago I found a R53 with JCW kit with many missing parts (bumpers, roof, doors, the whole interior) for sale quite cheap and I decided to bought it and turn it into a track day car.
Considering that it is pretty difficult (and very expensive) to find parts for an R53 down here, I´ve found a complete R56 dash with all the instruments.
I wanted to know if it is possible to connect an R56 tacho and speedometer to an R53 ECU. Is there any adapter? Has anybody done that before?
