Mur, It all began with a 1275e that needs a new oil filter. I'll start a new thread sometime soon. Or find the oil filter thread on the Mk1 forum (Tech section) that is up to three pages now. Doubt it will solve your problem though!

I am keen to learn of this mess you are trying to fix. There is so much potential for madness with these: for example, I have an mpi block in my spi automatic, so the oil filter boss is not even machined. Yet.

Terry, As expected, but unfortunate. Thanks for the time.

Terry, Saw the Spares photo, too, but just trying to eliminate any possible issues. This is all part of a bigger issue that I've run into nothing but misleading information. Once the easy ones are cleared, I'll start a thread on the real issue.

The block I got to today did not have the fitting.
I will get to the other one tomorrow.
I just did a quick search on the part number and the MiniSpares photo shows it as one threaded piece:

tmsmith, If the two halves are of a different diameter, it should be easy to see or check quickly with calipers once the union is unscrewed from the block a little.
The drawings in the parts diagrams show a part of equal diameter the entire length, but drawings aren't always correct.

I seem to remember making an adapter for some reason... welded a 'union' with two different threads... I'll see if I can find it.

I'll tell you this about a MPI block, the threads top, bottom, front and back are SAE and all threads on the front facing grille are metric. Steve (CTR)

Chuck:
I have a block that I can unscrew the fitting from, flip it over and try to screw it in.
It may take me a day to unbury it, so hopefully someone will answer shortly.

MPi blocks have got a direct fit filter, similar to your SA estate or a Marina/Ital engine.

Not tapered. Asking if the end in the block is one size and the other half (for the filter) is a different diameter.

Yes I'm a little confused as well. Could be asking if the thread in block is different than filter end? I have one at the shop and know it uses a different filter from the rest. Steve (CTR)

Are you asking if it's a tapered thread ?

Is the threaded union on the MPi that "connects" the block and the oil filter the same size the whole length?
