That being said, it is definitely a good idea to make sure.  The easiest way to tell for the newer years is in 1992 they added an internal bonnet release, anything older will have a dip in the front grill top middle for external release.  As malsal said, in 1991 they introduced the SPI aka Single Point Injection aka fuel injection.  Anything with a carb is either older or has been converted to carb.

Hope you get the info you want.  Good luck!

Note that carb'd 1275cc Minis were built parallel to the SPis until August 1994.

It is hard to get an actual year from a vin number but you can get close.
From this site SAXXNNAXKBD040286.
SAX= MG ROVER
XN = MINI 1300
N = Sport, Cooper or Cabriolet
A = 2dr saloon/sedan.
X = 1300 spi 9.4:1 single point injection)
K = RHD automatic (right hand drive)
B = 1300 (1.3 liter) actually 1275cc.
D = Longbride UK (assembly plant)
040286 is an assembly number
1990 Mini's started at 010001 so yours would be 40,000 or so after that which i am guessing will be from late 1991 through 1993 sometime. Late 1991 was when the spi's were first introduced.
Make sure the 2nd vin number matches yours exactly and make sure the auto is good as the oil needs to be changed every 1500 to 2000 miles on auto's and is often overlooked.

If in doubt, flat out . Colin Mc Rae MBE 1968-2007.

BMHT is the heritage certificate of build date etc. To find your build date, our host has this link... http://www.minimania.com/Mini_Identification_1837

Hello,

I found a Japanese spec mini that I want to buy. My question is, is there a database or anything that can use to get an accurate build date? I want to import it so I need to make sure its 25.

The Vin is SAX-XNNA-XKBD-040286

Can anyone help?
