The actual serial number is usually not used for ID purposes.  The only exception I know of is the 9F/Sa/H series which is divided between 1071S and 998 Cooper types...  The only way to tell these apart (using the numbers) is to identify the particular serial number group the engine belongs to.  

These are shown in the MM listing....

Just under the part in the link for Engine ID for Standard Mini Engines look for a link named Identification data UPDATED, //www.minimania.com/web/SCatagory/ENGINE/DisplayType/Calver%27s%20Corner/DisplayID/1520/ArticleV.cfm

In there look for 998 Cooper January 1964 onward.

thanks willie, I should have been more descriptive. I have been looking at the chart you provided
and don't see where the #30268 might be listed, that's why I'm looking for help.
