The o ring seals work just fine if installed correctly. They are very hard to install and have to be used with the correct valves, caps and keepers. I like to use the 12 G 295, 1100 cyl. heads on my small bores. I replace the valve guides which takes care of using top hat seals. I also have hard exhaust valve seats installed. Using the latest lead free small bore valves OS, intake and exhaust with the multi groove keepers and the valve caps to match. Surfacing the head to set compression ratio ends up with a cyl. head in the $500. range. The guy who has been doing my cyl. head porting has suffered some health issues. I'm working on finding another who can give the same level of effort. Steve (CTR)

I found with my MG 1100 engine that the head has the double springs and normal seals got jammed up in the inner spring.
I fitted viton umbrella seals that I bought off Todd at the austinamerica site - Ive never been able to get a direct link to the sections?
austinamericausa.com
and its under technical advice (on the left) and then engine - 3/4 of the way down the page
Viton Valve Stem seals on all 8 (you can purchase these from me. Email me for more info at: austinado16  at  cs  dot  com)
His name is Todd

My MG1100 engine was fitted with cup type valve stem seals - without springs.  Apparently, the 1098 engines were fitted with the O ring type seals however the MG1100 valve guides (without fitting groove) are a perfect fit for the cups.

Any MG1100 engine experts out there who can recommend the correct seals?  I have read articles claiming the later cup seals with springs can and also cannot be used, but I also cannot find a source for the type of cup seals presently fitted.
