zami, the outer end of the drive shafts (pot joint and pre-pot joint) are the same.

Having had the MSC and the JKD 5 speeds I seem to recall JKD had their own cases cast. I think they are marked in the same location as casting numbers on factory cases.
I have been building 4 speed using the wide ratio metro gear sets and over drive drop gears. King of makes fourth worthless under 50 mph. 70 mph ate 3000 and 96 mph at 4000 kind of makes up for it. Steve (CTR)

Thks Cheleker. I will definitely have the cross pin installed. So I can't use my S drive shafts. I assume the rod change DS are compatible with the S CV hubs?

You will also need rod change compatible drive shafts.
I run the cross pin diff in a lot of cars; however, the 1406 is running a Quaife. If I built it again, I would just run the cross pin.

I've got a 5 speed in a car i bought.
Are there any markings to ID who built the box?
I would think each company would put their mark on the product.
Anyone know where to look on the case and what to look for?

i have one in my woodie as well running a 145 hp twin cam conversion, really like the overdrive for freeway use. mine is a minispeed unit from the uk

Thks, unfortunately it is not all original. I am running a 1380 with all the bells and whistles. I understand that in addition to the gearbox I will also need all the rod change linkage, inboard pots anything else? Also on your 1406 did you upgrade the 5 spd i.e. cross pin diff ?

If the S has been restored, stay with the original three-syncro gearbox. Keep the value of the car.
If it has been rebuilt, but not restored, you could go to the 5-speed. I run them in two of my cars: a stock 998 and a relatively powerful 1406cc (stroked 1360) engine. I like the 3.44 final drive with the overdrive 5th giving about 18mph/1000 rpm in 5th gear.

Looking to update a 20 yr. old prior resto on a 65 S and looking at the MM/MS 5 speed gear box. This looks to provide the best of all worlds, maintain the fun gears and the overdrive for the expressway. Anyone have any experience with these gearboxes. Thks
