How about picking up a Pickup from S. Carolina in February and driving across the southern states and up the coast to Seattle? It wasn't a Mini Guy deal, but Michael has spent time via telephone and emails asking me about Mini details making sure he knows some of the cars he's dealing with...at least the best that I can help.

Looking forward to it. You do good work and we have similar sensibilities, car-wise.

Hehe. One day I'll have my own fun adventure. Maybe even take this new project and actually rally drive it and not just sit on car shows and mini meets.

*I apologize for hijacking this thread. I'll start my own thread talking about my new rally project soon*

Yep big balls right there! Would've been a fun ride but i'm not a bachelor, not retired and have a job that requires me to be at work when needed hehe. Maybe when I retire i'd have a much different life set up. But it's all having a good plan.

I have a buddy who lives 12 miles from me, he has been in minis all his life, a bachelor, free to come and go. He jumped on a plane, flew from Ontario to Montana, bought a tough little MK 1 and drove it back home

I will never drive home an old car I don't know and i just test drove for a few mins. But like Rosebud said, If that is "THE" car and if it's located overseas then I'd invest in getting that car here that's if i can afford it.

I was looking for a specific car for a specific project in mind. He got my car sold for my asking price and opportunity opened up the right time for choosing between two cars that was for sale. One was in his inventory and the other wasn't. Both cars were supposed to be ideal for my plan turning into another vintage racer. One i'd like to turn into a historic cafe racer and the other, another works rally. I went to him because I don't like doing paperwork myself as it's something i'm not good at and it's one of those things I wouldn't trust myself tbh.

Like what I posted earlier, I wasn't able to buy the car from ML as someone beat me to it (i'm still a little butt hurt about it as that kind of opportunity will probably never come to me again). The other car was in the same city and so I bought that one. About minimania classifieds: There was another red Mk1 car available here on classified ads but it didn't attract me.

To express my personal opinion about acquiring a car outside the US: It's not a good option for me. I have little amount of experience and I don't have the means to pull that off especially when I already have two options available within 3 hours driving distance where I can personally check it out in person.

I still want to give credit to Michael Lewis for helping me get my car sold. It's true we had a slight hiccup finding me a car that i truly want but the dude got a good system how the whole process went down from getting paperwork, photos, escrow, schedule for car pickup, what i need to know when the car is about to enter the auto carrier, check getting delivered to me and the car getting safely delivered to the buyer. Everything was organized and he was very helpful when it came to questions i have.

Like i i said he's a business man and so you need to get paperwork on everything to get you covered.

Craig Hunter at Hunter Classic Sports cars in Victoria, BC, Canada is where we got our JDM Mini Tartan. He has access to Canadian$$ cars. //www.hunterclassicsportscars.ca/

If it's not Scottish....it's crap! (Cry of the Mini Tartan Owners' Clan)

Yes - I recently bought a car through Michael. Feel free to drop me an email and I can tell you about my (mostly positive) experience.

I don't know about you, but for me, finding the right used car is a very personal affair; has to be the right color, right year, right condition etc. When I find the one I want, I buy it. Doesn't matter who's selling it. Why would anyone limit their car shopping to this site or any other single source? And yeah, a car salesman is a car salesman... and a mechanic is a mechanic and a welder is a welder. What would we expect? BTW: I've never bought or sold a car thru Mike, but I have called him for advice and have always found him to be knowledgeable and helpful.

No i didn't buy this new mk1 that i'm playing with. I'd give him credit for helping me sell my previous 997 Cooper though. He insists he could put more money in my pocket than selling the car on my own and he did. He repeatedly says the same lines over and over again and it's making my ears hurt already. I got my asking price and he did all the work for me. I'd give him that. He's very good with paperwork and making you feel secure ONLY IF you are trying to seek help selling your car. And that's based from my personal experience. He's still operating his business so I'm guessing he's alright with the others now.

Buying a car from him is a different story though. I wasn't lucky enough to be given that chance to buy a car from him for a lot of reasons.

My suggestion to the PO is make sure you track down communication, seal the deal with a deposit with paperwork when you think it's a killer deal (Even if he doesn't ask for it) because if it is then I can guarantee you that he's talking to a few more buyers and someone faster will snatch it from you without notice and you would hate to be clueless the entire time. He's not your friend but a car sales man.

I would think that Mike Lewis has little to do with the quality of your car. He's not doing wrenching.  the benefit is that a lot of cars are listed in one place. The detriment is that you pay more for his advertising services.

He has no warranty, guarantee, or any other benefit that I can think of.

He's a used car dealer without the plaid suit.

That was in 2006. How is he now? Dennis, did you buy your car through him too?
