I always hated the pedals in my mini and never really had a good look at them. I am 6'3 or so and the pedals being off to the side sre kindve weird as well as close together.I beleive mine was a RHD converted to LHD .I will be looking into reworking the pedal as well soon with the new motor.

hunziker makes shoes. Google them. They're pretty cool (and costly) but I've considered buying some if I plan to race either of the cars.

And i wasn't kidding i wore them riding a bicycle backwards.
I've seen video of you riding a bike backwards.

(Better than some people ride them forward)

Don't remember if you were wearing flip flops but you were rocking that bike.

No worries you're good! And I appreciate that you're pointing that out. Some are pricks and can be real jerks that they had to embarrass or make someone feel really bad they probably got bullied when they were kids and everybody knows who they are.

Anyway I'm not a mini expert and which the reason I come and ask.

I missed the poop storm and breezed through the comments. Here's my info for other people later on:

I moved my dip switch over about an inch so I wouldn't hit it when using the clutch. I also drive in either small shoes or none at all. In my Lotus I can't drive in anything but bare feet. The clutch is SOOO sticky, and the throttle so sensitive I want every chance I can get to hit the pedals right. It's also super comfortable and relaxing to drive sans-shoes.

More seriously, the study of ergonomics was almost unheard of in the '50s.   Cars were simply made based on what seemed right and some came out well, and the others didn't.

In the US, SAE (society of automotive engineers) saw the work being done by NASA to design spacecraft controls inside of the cabin, and all of that data being generated to understand human ergonomics, on a big scale, for the first time, and created what became the FMVSS regulations during the late '60s (and on into today).

Before the space program, the military didn't need much study (a fighter pilot was strapped in and his cockpit was real small), but with the space program the "cockpit" was going to be too large to reach everything from one position, and there were going to be far too many controls to keep them all within easy reach, and the possibility of female astronauts (the Russians had very publicly sent a woman into space), the range of needed data was far greater than what had been previously needed.  The data was still pretty limited (essentially only focusing on military aged people in prime health), but it was the start that got modern automotive ergonomic design going.  Including gas pedals that can be operated by almost any size of shoe.

I don't wear 1960's pointy shoes boss. Even their work boots and military boots weren't beefy looking back then.... And Issigonis already thought that's supposed to be uncomfortable? I don't think a little tweak here and there isn't sacrilegious to have a much safer drive i think.

I did a slight bent of a pedal not a honda transplant.

Sheesh... we're all forgetting heel-and-toe braking, where you apply brakes while keeping revs up.
I think Sir Alec designed it that way, thinking ahead about rallying.

(Dennis/Armycook: was your left foot sleeping - why wasn't it on the clutch?)

Thanks Jemal. Yeah i thought about removing that throttle pedal and bend it on a vise i just wanna hear what other hacks everyone has done as changing shoes every time can be annoying. Im
sure there's gonna be a huge recall if this happens in the modern cars. Can't expect Toyota or Honda to tell you you're wearing inappropriate shoes rather than fix that small ergonometry glitch.

The very quick solution is to grab a channel-lock pliers and BEND the gas pedal away a little!   You have more precision if you unscrew it's little hold down clamp and take it out and use a vice.

I have momentarily stepped on both in the LHD Moke, but not in the MK1 S.  The seating position makes a difference.... Moke has stock column and seats perched over it.  A very awkward throttle pedal for my 6 foot frame.  My S has my custom tilt column and much further back seats, making a much more natural and comfortable leg and foot position.

That's a good info Alex. I just bled the brakes not too long ago and the travel doesn't go much and still slightly higher than the throttle pedal but I'll try and take that Paddy Hopkirk alloy pedal it came with and see if this will work better.

I have an original LHD car and the pedal spacing is very tight. It's probably worse as I have the magic wand gear lever. There is so little space between the gear lever and the steering column that there really is no option to move either the brake or the accelerator pedal. I suspect the Cooper and Cooper S with the rod change box just used the same pedal even though the space constraint wasn't the same.
My solution is to wear driving shoes which are narrow enough to fit the pedals. If you have the space to the right, I would suggest modifying the throttle pedal arm is the way to go, but it'll put the pedals even further off to the right.

Guess it's something i'll just make my own from scratch then.

If your foot is higher than the throttle pedal when the brake pedal is pressed hard down then there shouldn't be a problem.

If your foot is lower than the throttle when the brake pedal is hard down, tighten and/or bleed your brakes.

Later cars had a brake pedal that was cranked higher (coffin shaped) to help with this if you're still struggling.

Me, I can drive mine with size 10 D.M. steel boots on, but it takes more thought than when wearing 'proper' shoes.
