I have often thought about installing a set but this is the second time that I've heard of a coil spring breaking.  'Improved' ride or not, I'm not willing to risk getting stuck in the middle of Montana with a broken spring.  I'm sticking to cones.

I broke one on the rear of Tubbs years ago, managed to contact John and he replaced it as it appeared to be defective.
I've put tens of thousands of miles on the same set in Betty, and they're still going strong.

Be aware that the front and rear coils are subtly different.

You got stung!!! Those were the very first coil spring production from few years back, still under test ,,,the newer ones sold nowadays are far more durable.

Having installed several sets of steel coil suspension springs I'm surprised you were able to break one. I recently found out not all red coil springs come from S racer. I currently have three sets on my work bench and two sets are the same and one set is clearly different. When I had just the two sets we ordered another set from John Coo S Racer in hopes of figuring out which were which. As suspected one set was not S Racer. Call John as soon as you can. It's my understanding when he sells out there won't be any more. I was able last year to talk John into selling us a pair of his blue springs. A customer decided to go Honda power and the shop threw his front sub and steel springs away. When the customer decided to go back to mini power we had to replace everything in the front.

The only give away between the sets was free length. I'm not a big fan of steel springs, although one of the fastest, best handling and stopping street minis I work on has them. I have spent days working with three of us on suspension setting for this car. Ride height, corner weight, caster, camber and toe. Steve (CTR)

Well I've heard of this happening and sure enough looks like I have one.  On the way into town I hear this loud bang, everything works fine until I go over a bump.  Yep, I'm riding on the bump stop.  Left front corner.

I see our host sells a complete set for all 4 wheels but I'll only need one.  I'll try to contact them after the holiday.

Is replacing the spring anything more than dropping the suspension and pulling it out and replacing the red spring??
