They're all pretty much the same from the outside I'm afraid, even the old pressed impeller type.
The new EVO pumps as linked have MSC cast into them if I'm remembering correctly, but yours it probably older than that.

Thanks. But back to the original question, is there any way to determine if my pump is a deep impeller type, from the *outside*? I did not put the engine together, and I'd like to avoid pulling the pump off if that is avoidable. Thanks again!

At 50$ = a new ' "uprated" pump is a great investment value and maintaince upkeep item repair for a race car.
takes only about 1 hour to install too.

Secondly = are you using a 'larger' pump pulley == to avoid overdriving the pump at High RPMS. Larger pulley from stock diameter will spin the impeller slower= slowing down water flow allowing the needed heat transfer in the rad.

It's for a 1275 race car that's overheating. I didn't put the engine together and I want to check the water pump type, as per Calvers Corner. ;)

They only last 30,000 miles. You can find out when you change it next. Are you concerned that the impeller is of insufficient depth for your uses? The only concern I would have about an impeller is if it was a pressed steel type instead of a cast item it could degrade from becoming the sacrificial anode in the cooling system.

It's 1300 America block but don't know who put it together. Is there a way that I can tell from the outside, i.e. casting marks, etc?

don't all 1275 engines use"deep impeller" pumps?
Are you asking about a small bore engine?

Is there any way that you can tell if a water pump is of the deep impeller type, without removing it from the engine? Thanks
