Team Mini Mania has been growing for a number of years and just this past
week I could not pass up the opportunity to add another Vintage "Bugeye"
Sprite Race Car to the stable.
...And we're racing our new acquisition at the Rocky Mountain Vintage
Racing charity event!

This 1959 Bugeye was found by a friend of mine on Bring-a-Trailer. The listing reported that the car was on sales on Craiglist in the Denver area.
While I procrastinated, my partner in life decided that she wanted to buy it for sure!
Two hours later we made the deal over the phone without ever seeing the car except in pictures.

We then realized that the owner of the Bugeye is only 30 Minutes from a great mechanic and good friend of ours, Dean Snippenger of Computer Car, Inc.
A phone call later we found that Dean had actually built the motor in this little jewel and thus knew a lot about the car |
| We also then realized that we needed to think about how to get the Bugeye from Colorado to our home in California. We had planned a couple weeks earlier to race our Unsbee Mini in Colorado at the Vintage Races but had no desire to haul a two car trailer over the Rockies. We made another quick decision- we would leave the Mini at home, pick-up the Bugeye from Dean and race the Bugeye in the Charity event! |
Dean, our friend in Denver has had the car for a couple days and with the addition of updated seatbelts and a transponder- it is ready to race! (He is also qualified by RMVR to provide official Tech Inspection that will make the process a lot easier). Jamie Stiehr, another racing friend of our, that is very involved in the Charity event aided in contact for RMVR that have been very helpful in making this all happen with needed paper-work, etc. |
About The Charity Event
Team MiniMania is racing this year at Rocky Mountain Vintage Racing's Race Against Kids' Cancer in support of the Morgan Adams Foundation (MAF). MAF funds critical, early stage research into pediatric cancers - primarily of the central nervous system. This research has both long term benefits in helping the scientific community decipher the underlying causes of these cancers as well as the immediate benefits of cataloging and archiving the genetic makeup of tumors and their responses to different treatment regimes. This allows physicians around the world to reference clinical outcomes of patients with similar tumors to theirs to help them design their patient's treatment regimes. This is really important work that makes a real difference in the lives of children battling cancer way before they should be confronted with a failing body.
This race has raised over $325,000 to fund this research over the last 4 years and their goal is to raise another $100,000 through this years race this weekend. I'm told they are well along in this effort, but still have work to do.
There are so many worthy charities that you have to choose from but if pediatric cancer research resonates with you as something you'd like to support, please consider a tax deductible donation to MAF by sponsoring me here. Please pass this on to anyone (family, friends, work colleagues, small groups, clubs, etc.) you think might join us making this event a success by meeting this $100,000 goal. |
