These are new ring and pinion gears for the Morris Minor and Sprite/Midgets. The 3.55:1 ratio will reduce RPM's at freeway speeds even more than the 3.7 ratio.

These sets require fitment to the later type differential housing without the built-in filler plug.

Question:
Will this fit a1977 midget 1500. Stock diff housing
Answer:
Yes, these fit the late-type housings. Be aware however that we've switched vendors on the crown wheelsets and due to the pandemic we've had delays in getting them. We're currently out of stock and I can't give an accurate lead time as of yet. I believe the pricing will be the same but that too may change depending on higher freight costs currently and when and how those costs may be eased.

Question:
I'm really happy to see that this taller ring and pinion set is available. Two questions: 1. You say it can only be used with a "non-built-in filler plug" housing, which is what I believe I have. My housing has only the level plug, about a third of the way up from the bottom, and a vent cap. Am I right? 2. Do you supply the shims that may be required to set up gears?
Answer:
You're describing the 3rd-member, we're referring to the differential case itself, or "pumpkin," as some refer to it. The Morris Minor types (and early Sprite types) had a filler plug on the side of the diff case itself since the 3rd-member on the Morris Minor didn't have one (it had only a drain plug). It was superfluous on the Sprites since their 3rd-member is like yours; it has both a fill plug and a drain plug. But the differential was an off-the-shelf choice by BMC for the Sprite and the Morris one was already available. Later Sprites and Midgets had differential cases without a fill plug on the side. These cases are the ones that can accommodate the 3.9, 3.7, and 3.55 ring and pinion sets.
FYI, the 3.55 is an aftermarket set that was never a factory option on the Sprite & Midget.
We do offer the shims to set up this gear set, yes.
