spitz.. I agree.. real STUPIC rule.. on imports..  seems this is happening a lot now with land rover defenders as most folks want the 300 TDI engine. and think they only made them after 2004..  with this rule that the engines MUST be OEM..  lets CBP SEIZE more land rovers..  later bc

I tried to open another thread as to how these new rules will effect the value of cars already here. Really nice cars should demand a high resale value. There is nothing new about the complaints as to how the import rules are applied. I don't think they are looking to make us happy. Steve (CTR)

I don't think anyone has ever accused the gov't of having fact-based, logical rules.

We have many stupid ones here in Bolivia as well. Like, if you loose your title, you can't sell it. There is no way to re-issue it. So if something happens to it and your family does not know where it is, the car is dead too.

Well that's just a stupic rule.

So I can ship a classic MINI to the US, no problem, if I remove the engine...... but I can't ship it to the US if it has a replacement engine in place.

But once the engineless car gets to the US I can put an engine in it?

It does not matter how much the President knows about the topic. He is having people go through and simplify regulations and get rid of things that don't matter or obstruct progress.

Is it better to complain on the forum about regulations? or complain to someone who just might be able to do something about it.

This is not a political statement. Don't read more into it or try to twist it. Just a suggestion.

Suggestion: How about taking a momento to google the White House page and send a comment that they should review these regulations. We now have a president that wants to throw out restrictive things. It only takes a moment.

I did it.

Thanks for the information. The mini is a UK mini, the engine number does match the paperwork, but I decided to just pass on it instead.

Customs is a lot stricter nowadays and you are being smart for being concerned. You don't say which Country the car is currently registered in. If it is registered where the engine number is printed on the title (UK does this) and the car is completely stock in all the other areas i would consider importing it as long as the engine number matches the paperwork. If the engine number is missing you can get the engine id plates and rivets and get one stamped from the big Mini parts suppliers over there.

please read the other current threads on this forum about how imported vehicles today must have original everything

From their information that car will be a no go.

I found a nice 1978 clubman 1000 overseas in great condition and price. The supporting information all checks out with Vin numbers and paper work all matching as well as the overall body being in original condition. Unfortunately I notice on the pictures of the engine, that it has had a engine swap. Instead of having a A-series 1000 engine it has a A+ 1000 engine.

Should I just move on or is it nothing to worry about.

Thank you,
