More likely some creative wiring.

Ok...i'm not sure what everyone else is saying but I found the loose wire (ground from head light) put it back into the 3---> 1 on the back of the light...and now the green light on the end of the indicator works. Must be an indicator that one of the exterior lights are out. Thanks guys!!

As above...

The green indicator on the turn signal lever is only a repeater lamp for the turn signals.  It isn't wired to the headlights in any way.  Also, the blue high-beam indicator lamp on the speedo is only an indicator that there is power on the high beam circuit.  The high beam indicator will stay "on" even if both high beams are burned out.

^ yup.

The indicator circuit is switched live whereas the headlamps are permanent live. The bulb does go on and off as you idicate though...

Uuumm no.  Indicator bulb works whether headlights are on or off ..... They have no connection to the headlight circuit...to the best of my knowledge

Sorry I'm talking about the green light at the end of the directional indicator, will that go out if a headlamp goes out??? I've done over a hundred miles in the mini today so some stuff needs some looking after.

Well I would never say never where Minis are concerned.... but I've not ever seen a Mini with a headlight warning lamp...  High beam has a blue light ...

Mk IIs have green direction indicator lamps in the instrument cluster - but Mk Is have that on the end of the indicator stalk..

Cheers, Ian
