You don't happen to be in Charlotte? The LoJack installer just called from the road. He's going to be here in 3 hours.

I've got a LoJac installed on some of my vehicles.  One thing that I especially like about it is that if your car is stolen, you call 911 and they immediately search the LoJac network for your car.  No middle man, no waiting for information.  And because it is a national (international, actually), pretty well respected system, you can get that when you travel with the car too.

There is a version you can get in some regions which will automatically contact you (or the police, your choice) if the car is ever moved without your cell phone (you) in it.

Supposedly, these tracking services/devices are getting so good at catching the bad guys that what they do now is leave a car somewhere neutral for a day or so.  If no one comes to get it they'll know it isn't being tracked.  That increases the odds of you getting yours back.

that's extra nice,

Norm

This is what you need, runs on 3G network, very reliable and costs me around $10 a year to run, no other charges. I leave my cars at the airport for up to a month and they start every time so power consumption is minimal. That's $229 AUD, so about $150 USD and I'll post for free. There are many GPS tracking devices on the market that you can track from your laptop or smart phone.

Question is do you call the police or grab a handgun or shot gun and do a little investigation yourself  ?

Would obviously be better to involve the police first.

Hope I would do the right thing.  Don't like my stuff messed with though.

Hello, I have had Lojak for over 20 years on my 65 Mustang, also after a theft, I just went for the locating equipment, and told them where I wanted it hidden. The system has a battery in the unit, so if you remove your battery for storage it will shorten it's life, and may drain down to where it won't work, use a battery maintainer. Have it tested every couple of years, and have the battery changed out every 10 or so. Also make sure your local police have the tracking unit, or it's not going to do you any good. I have not had my car stolen, so I can't say how well the system works. But I like the fact that should it happen, I may possibly get my car, or parts of it back.

So my garage was broken into on Friday while I was at work. The sorry sons of you know what took my good gas mig welder, my new power washer, a nice Milwaukee circular saw, a 4-stroke trimmer head and all the good accessories. I'm also missing my BFH, which they used to smash the padlocks off of the inside of my barn doors. They also took a big case full of all of my ratchet tie-downs, but left behind a bunch of other power tools, generator, compressor, etc., which makes me think they will probably try to come back for the rest of it. So I spent the weekend repairing the busted in doors and fortifying the place as best as I can.

They bypassed my car, trailer, new tires, car parts, etc., so they weren't prepared for grand theft. But now that they know that stuff is in there, they're probably telling all of their friends.

Anyway, the question is, does anyone have LoJack on their cars, or know anyone who has had it and did it work? And do you think it's worth the money to get it installed?
