One thing that comes to mind would be that the vent for the tank is plugged/pinched.

This would be the vent at the top of the fuel tank....if you follow that line it should exit into the boot floor and/or ( depending on year and market ) vent to the air or travel back up to the front of the car to a charcoal canister.
You could pull the vent pipe off at the top of tank and take for a drive to test

Hey fellas,
I'm still having the same problem with highway speed driving.  55-70mph.

the car.  1275cc mini with hif44 carb-
new coil
new dizzy
new dizzy cap
new fuel filter
checked timing

the car runs great. all day long at low speeds.

the symptoms-
after about 1/2 mile driving at 55mph+ the car seems like it starts running on 2 or 3 cyclinders.
then I push in the clutch and let it coast for about 5 seconds and I'm able to cruise again for about 1/4-1/2 mile again.
I could repeat this all day long.

It seems like the float bowl is going dry and needs to fill back up. But i've checked and rechecked the needle and seat. I've tested the fuel pump.  It looks good. 2-3lbs.

Has anyone seen this problem with an hif44?   Should I try dual SU's?

completely stumped.
